Tractor Greasing & Lubrication Schedule: Protecting Bushings, U-Joints & Bearings
Tractor grease fittings (commonly called Zerk fittings) are the frontline defense against metal-to-metal abrasive wear. Front-end loader pivot pins, steering knuckles, and 3-point lift arms endure thousands of pounds of pressure under dusty, abrasive conditions.
Without fresh grease to purge dirt and create a protective barrier, hardened steel pins will wear through bronze bushings and oval out the expensive cast iron loader frame holes.

2. Choosing the Right Grease: Red vs Blue vs Black (Moly)
Not all grease tubes are created equal. Using general automotive chassis grease on high-load loader pins leads to premature bushing failure.
- Lithium Complex with Molybdenum Disulfide (Moly - Black Grease): The #1 Choice for Front Loaders. Contains 3% to 5% solid molybdenum disulfide particles that plate onto steel under extreme shock loads (e.g. ramming into rock piles), preventing metal scuffing even if the liquid grease washes away.
- Marine Calcium Sulfonate (Blue Grease): Outstanding water washout resistance. Ideal for tractors operating in muddy rice paddies, snowplowing with salt brine, or swamp clearing.
- Standard Multi-Purpose Lithium (Red Grease): Excellent high-speed bearing grease for PTO shafts, mower deck spindles, and alternator bearings.
